Examples:

• Suppose you have a field containing a date in ISO format(e.g. 19990915) and you need to print it literally on a legal document.

  EVAL	Result = Dat_Wrd(DATFLD:'ISO':'WFLGL')

  Result now contains:
  Wednesday, the 15th day of September, 1999
  
  
• Perhaps your date is kept in USA format(e.g. 09151999) and you want to print it literally on a letter.

  EVAL	Result = Dat_Wrd(DATFLD:'USA':'FMDY')

  Result now contains:
  September 15, 1999
  
  
• Suppose you need to convert a number to words.

  EVAL	Result = Num_Wrd(6265.142)

  Result now contains:
  six thousand, two hundred sixty-five and one hundred forty-two one thousandths
  
  
• For printing on a check, add a format argument.

  EVAL	Result = Num_Wrd(6265.142:'DF')

  Result now contains:
  six thousand, two hundred sixty-five and 14/100 Dollars
  
  
• You prefer a different format and want to add tamper resistance. Easy.

  EVAL	Result = Num_Wrd(PAYOUT:FMT:PRE:SUF)

  How's this?

• Oh, but each word should be capitalized.   No problem!   Stick one function inside another:

  EVAL	Result = Str_Cse(Num_Wrd(PAYOUT:FMT:PRE:SUF):'W')

  Now it generates this:

• Functions also work in IF statements.

  IF	Med_BSA(WGT:HGT:'M') > 1.75

  The condition is met if the Body Surface Area, computed with the Mosteller formula, exceeds 1.75 m²
  
  
• Or, DO statements.

  DOU	Fin_Ann(PMT:INT:PDS:FV:PV) >= 10000

  Iterates until the annuity argument being solved for(e.g. Future Value) equals or exceeds 10,000.
  
  
• Or, in SELECT groups.

  WHEN	CVT_Dst(LEN:'ft':'m ') > 6

  The condition is met when length in feet exceeds the equivalent of six meters.
  
  
• They even work within Built-In Functions. Suppose you keep your last name and first name fields separately and in all upper case:

  EVAL	Name = %TRIM(STR_Cse(LNAM:'w')) + ', ' + %TRIM(STR_Cse(FNAM:'w'))

  Name now contains a formatted name such as this:
  Smith, Harry
